Free Range Red
As I mentioned in an earlier post I went to Arizona, and naturally I drank some beers along the way. I kind of hit the ground running on this one as I had heard that Laurelwood Brewery had just recently opened a kiosk at PDX. After getting my tickets going through security and getting a bite to eat I realized that I still had aprox 2 hours until my plane flight (thanks to the advice that I leave really early due to security). Laurelwood's kiosk is sort of hidden (I hear they recently opened a new one in E?) in terminal A and to be honest I didn't like the atmosphere of the place at all, but what do you want for an airport I guess. Anyway the first beer I had was the Free Range Red. It is a organic red ale and while I took notes I don't have them with me so whatever. You can see the stats of the beer here but the just of it is this is a good brew, quite hoppy for what I would consider a red to be there is definitely a lot of fruity citrus notes due to the fine Cascade hops we have around here. The malt also shows through slightly on this one making this a very balanced beer. This was and is a beer I would definitely go back for. I also tried their Space Stout, maybe I wasn't in the mood for it, but to be honest it didn't do anything for me, that is to say for a stout nothing really got my attention, I wouldn't say it was bad just not exciting. I shouldn't have put down 2 imperial pints before the plane ride but I will say it sure made it more bearable. On a side note I sat next to a "intellect" in the bar that wasn't a craft beer drinker and he kept saying "lets get this beer cause it has the most alchohol", which was a IIIPA, while he was also commenting that Laurelwood's Blonde ale had too much flavor!! Gotta love that.

Hey Adam :)
I love Laurelwood Free Range Red too! One of my faves. There's a new brewery on SE Powell that you'd probably like called Hopworks; just went there the other day and not only do they have good beer, everything is organic and sustainable. Cheers!
