So most people spend Labor Day hanging out with family and eating good food. I did that mind you but I also spent like an hour or so picking up rotten pears off the ground with a pitch fork fighting a small army of very angry and slightly drunken bees. For some reason despite smelling the fragrance of rotten fermenting pears for an hour or so I developed a sweet tooth that got me thinking about what I could make in the way of a dessert, I also had the innate need to create flames.
I don't know why but being a guy makes you automatically think of fire as something that you should play with on occasion whether that be fire in the real sense like writing you name in gasoline in the driveway or "playing with fire" like answering the age old question of "Do I look fat in this dress?" kind of fire. Us guys also like the combination of booze and fires. My friends and I used to, in college, do tricks with burning vodka in the back yard for amusement. I'm getting off topic, back to my sweet tooth. I had pears, 151 rum, sugar, butter, and cinnamon which is a good combination for both a tasty desert and also alcohol induced flames.
Recipe
1 tbsp of butter
2 tbsp brown sugar
dash of cinnamon
2 Bartlet pears cored and sliced
1/2 oz of 151 rum
Basically I made this recipe up based on the fact that I faintly remembering that this can be done with bananas. Melt the butter on medium heat in a frying pan , when butter is melted add sliced pears and cook until somewhat soft. Now add the brown sugar and cinnamon cooking for another 1-2 minutes. Take off heat and add rum. At this point you will need an ignition source like say a lighter. Light the cooked pears and enjoy the blue flame as the alcohol in the rum burns off. The pears are ready to be served with vanilla ice cream or maybe a dollop of whipped cream. Oh and if you need to feel a little bit of your college days there's always the 151.

Mmm, sounds delicious! I do make something similar with bananas that is equally good. I like the fall inspiration though :)
