Into the dark Abyss
I wonder if ale yeast likes green shag carpet? The 60's never left our house and while I'm pretty sure free love was never conducted on this shag carpet(very Mennonite owners) , avocado green and flowery wall paper was so kind to grace this dwelling. A interior decorator must have puked in the 60's and thought to themselves "Dude, my spew would make wonderful home decor!!" as they came off of a acid stamp induced psychedelic trip. Granted when the cat throws up or the dog has an accident it doesn't show up too well, but what the hell? Talk about the most depressing colors ever!! Anyway my wife and I have become accustom to the dated feeling in this house and while I think we both would like some updates, it's not our house and money would have to be spent. I'd rather spend my money on more important things, like beer, and mmm.... beer making stuff. Speaking of spending money on beer, I dropped $15 on a 22oz beer this weekend. I know I know it sounds expensive and it is, but think of how much people spend on wine. Why the high price tag, you may wonder, ell you spend a lot for a beer that is aged partially in a pinot noir barrel and a bourbon barrel, and has a ABV of 11%. The beer widely known by beer connoisseurs as Abyss was concocted by the fine people of Deschutes Brewery, I'm thinking they are freeking genius!!! My old man (I'm sure he's going to hate me for calling him that) and I shared this scarce breed of beer, the first taste was like eating a forbidden fruit. God may have waited to create original sin if he/she had only known that some day some satin inspired brewer would create this masterpiece. Come on an apple, it's got nothin on this one. Perhaps Catholics invented original sin in the 13th century or some shit just to scare us, I don't know, but I think if the Spanish Inquisition had used this beer instead of torture and killing they just might have converted more. "Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!!" Monty Python cracks me up. Oh, I made my first all-grain this weekend while my dad and I sucked down brews. The shear amount of time extra required to make all-grain beers requires that you drink a few pints while brewing. By the way, thanks dad for helping me out with the brewing and helping me make a dent in all that home brew I have in storage.
